Pre-conceptional Counselling
Preconception counseling is an appointment with your healthcare provider that’s used to plan for a future pregnancy. Your family history, risk factors, medical conditions and lifestyle are all discussed. This appointment is an important part of a planned and healthy pregnancy.
Health conditions and risk factors could affect a woman or her unborn baby if she becomes pregnant. For example, some foods, habits, and medicines can harm your baby — even before he or she is conceived. Some health problems, such as diabetes, also can affect pregnancy.
For babies, preconception health means their parents took steps to get healthy before pregnancy. Such babies are less likely to be born early (preterm) or have a low birthweight. They are more likely to be born without birth defects or other disabling conditions.
Early Pregnancy Complications
Usually if a pregnancy is not going to be viable it will miscarry. Mostly, that will happen very early in the pregnancy, often before the mother even knows that she is pregnant. Most miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies happen in the early weeks of a pregnancy. Sometimes a pregnancy can seem to be developing normally and, for reasons that are often mysterious, a miscarriage may happen many weeks later. Consequently, early pregnancy can be a worrying time for women, especially if the parents have been waiting a long time for the pregnancy. This section will guide you through some of the more common concerns in early pregnancy and help you to know how to respond if things don’t go as planned.
High Risk Pregnancy
While there are many reasons you may be in a high-risk category, there is no reason to believe you shouldn’t be optimistic about having a great pregnancy.
High-risk pregnancies are classified as high-risk for one of two reasons.
Pre-existing conditions – those things we know might affect your health and your baby’s health during pregnancy.
Problems arising during the pregnancy – either due to a pre-existing condition or an issue that arises from IVF, an unknown medical issue or a congenital issue with the baby.
Just because you have a pre-existing condition, doesn’t automatically mean your pregnancy will pose a risk to you or your baby. But it is worth talking to an experienced specialist, before trying to fall pregnant. So, you go into the experience as confidently as possible.
Normal Vaginal Delivery
A vaginal delivery (also called “natural delivery”) is when a baby is born through the mother’s birth canal. A vaginal or “natural” delivery, is usually preferred in healthy pregnancies over Cesarean delivery – a surgical delivery performed by a doctor through an incision in the mother’s abdomen and uterus.
Cesarean Section
A cesarean delivery is needed if a baby can’t be born vaginally for reasons such as the positioning of the baby or placenta, or because of other health risks to the mother or baby. Some C-sections are planned, but many are done when unexpected problems occur during labor for a planned vaginal delivery.
Post Delivery Care
Giving birth isn’t an easy thing. But, caring for yourself after the delivery is the bigger task. The future health of the new mother and the baby depends on the post-delivery care taken.
Many new mothers may have someone to take care of themselves, while a few of them will have to cope with the situation all alone. Post-delivery care is not tough, but caring for yourself the right way is very important. The body and the mind will need proper care to deal with the childbirth experience.
We have come up with a few ways to take proper care of yourself post-delivery.
- Getting proper rest
- Eating healthy
- Walking a bit
- Intaking lot of water
- Hold back sexual activities

- Take some help
